The Synagogue, St. Thomas

The Synagogue in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Is a must for any history buff. Even if you aren’t Jewish (which I am just a little).  You can still appreciate the history and the beauty of this building. It is amazing how old and how it has been able to hold up to the elements. Even holding up after massive hurricanes such as Marilyn in 1995, which totally destroyed the island.

Oldest Synagogue in the Western Hemisphere

It was locked. However, I have been here before.

Just a few blocks from the shops of old downtown Charlotte Amalie, uphill, Is this gorgeous structure. It is a must stop to just see this little wonder on your little adventure on the island. It has a sand floor, (pretty cool, eh?) and nothing has been totally changed since it’s creation, except basic upkeep.

Check out the native stone stairs

It is the oldest standing synagogue in the western hemisphere. A pure little beauty.
